The new cycleway along the Northern Approach Road in Colchester is now open (October 2025).
The route came about as part of a project to install a bus lane which will take park and ride buses and “country buses”, including those from Dedham and Langham. Eventually the bus lane will be part of the Rapid Transit System which will run between Essex University and the Northern Gateway, and then perhaps Stanway and the south of town.
The cycleway fully complies with LTN 1/2o and includes a mostly segregated track with wide unsegregated areas behind the bus stops.
