NATIONAL LINKS Sustrans and the LOCAL LINKS CCC Report: Are the experts right? Check "Manual For Streets" | ||
![]() | |
This is a draft of a cycling map of Colchester produced by Essex County Council. CCC has recommended various improvements and asked that the next edition of the map be drawn on the lines of the Cheltenham map put together by John Franklin. John's technique involves grading all roads according to the competence of the cyclist. As an experiment, Essex County Council reversed their traffic hierarchy map: it worked ... but it highlighted the difficulty posed my most major junctions in the town.
Most roads in the town are safe to cycle for competent riders, but we would urge everyone to sign up for a cycle training course. See link on right.
The PDF download of the draft map is fairly large (900KB) - so it is best if you have a broadband connection.
