Rowhedge and Wivenhoe route news
Rowhedge Trail
CCC has welcomed news that planning for the Rowhedge Trail - connecting the Hythe area of Colchester to the village of Rowhedge - is proceeding apace.
The route will follow the opposite riverbank to the Wivenhoe Trail, and the two may one day be joined by a bike/ped bridge, giving Rowhedge people access to the shops and railway station of its Colneside neighbour.
The Rowhedge Trail scheme is still subject to landowner agreement.
Wivenhoe to University route
A new route to connect Wivenhoe with Essex University is being sought by Colchester Cycling Campaign in association with Wivenhoe Town Council and other groups.
The off-road path would, if built, largely follow the route of the current footpath, connecting Boundary Road with either Chaney Road or Broome Grove.
CCC chairman Will Bramhill said: "At the moment, this is a possibility only, but we are hoping that the increasing demand for such a route will persuade the people in power of its value.
"We would expect the path to be well used by people commuting between Wivenhoe and the University, so much so that we are already looking at an asphalt rather than a dust surface."
