Persimmon site routes hope
CCC has met the architects involved in the new Persimmon site off Cowdray Avenue, Colchester, and hopes are high that the development will include new cycle routes.
Above is a map of the development with the blue line showing the cycle route, turning to orange where it shares the road. The path will not be along the riverside, but will follow the bottom of the embankment beside Cowdray Avenue, joining with the existing path at the current new development.
At the western end, we hope ECC, CBC and Persimmon will negotiate for improvements to the route through Leisure World land. The development s106 should include a wider bridge across the river beside the park.
We're also hoping there will be cycle priority across the junction to the small cul de sac where the route heads north to cross Cowdray Ave.
There will be a cycle phased toucan across Cowdray Ave, and this should connect to the cycle route which comes down from Ipswich Road, beside Staples.
The other crossing will be for cycles, but there will be no traffic control. I anticipate a large island, like the one on Ipswich Road at the E$$o filling station.
As always, the devil will be in the detail, so CCC hopes to discuss the matter at the April 18 ECC cycling forum.
