Greenstead study
CCC's study of possible bike routes on the Greenstead estate is being taken forward by Essex County Council.
Our paper was presented to Vicky Presland of ECC at the July Cycling Forum.
The study looks at how to connect Greenstead to the rest of the town by bike, and how to make cycling within the estate more attractive.
Its highlights are:
:: A north-south route from the shopping centre to the Beehive pub
:: An improved Salary Brook trail connecting the Beehive with Essex University
:: Recommending changes to the junction of Bromley Road and Longridge to improve safety for people cycling on Crockleford Hill
:: A bike bridge over Avon Way near the Greenstead roundabout linking Tippett Close (university side) with Tangerine Close (Greenstead side)
:: Improved access on to Greenstead from St Andrew's Avenue, Harwich Road, Salary Brook and Bromley Road. (A new advisory crossing of the A133 will give access to Greenstead Road and the Hythe railway station)
Money for the scheme is likely to come from ECC and Colchester Borough Homes.
