Crossing Alresford Creek
Colchester Cycling has set up a Google group to promote the idea of a cycle/pedestrian bridge across Alresford Creek, linking Wivenhoe, Alresford and Brightlingsea.
The scheme is already on the reserve list of Sustrans's Connect To project, and the group behind the plan, the Community Reach Partnership, is hopeful that the bridge could eventually be included.

The bridge would more or less be in line with Ford Lane, the old Roman route from Colchester into Brightlingsea.
Thanks to CTC national councillor John Meudell, we are currently investigating how similar bridges are operated in Holland. The creek is navigable, with the largest yacht having a 60ft mast, so the bridge would need to be able to open. The Dutch examples include:
:: A bridge that lifts at pre-determined times
:: A bridge that lifts on request whilst the tide is high, and
:: remote opening on demand, controlled by CCT, possibly by Brightlingsea harbourmaster.
