Neil's plea for 30mph extension

CCC activist Neil Allen is hoping neighbourhood power will help persuade Essex County Council to extend a 30mph speed limit.

Neil is hoping the 30 limit will apply to part of Berechurch Road next to the new Colchester Garrison.

At present, the council plans to end the 30 zone 50 metres north of the new garrison flyover.

In a letter to Essex County Council, Neil is asking for this to be extended to cover the entrance to the Garrison Sports facility

He said: "This would provide a much safer crossing point for the Garrison Green Link and easier entrance/exit to the sports ground.

"It will improve accessibility and safety - both key aims of Essex's Local Transport Plan."

Neil is contacting various Colchester groups in the hope that they will write similar letters to the county.

If you would like to write to ECC as an individual, please contact Neil, substituting "@" for "at".

Neil added: "We realise this area falls outside of Essex's current policy on where a 30mph speed limit is suitable, but we think there is a special case to be made.

"I have asked ECC to review their decision."
