Neil leads garrison snagging ride

CCC activist Neil Allen led a ride across the new Colchester Garrison to hightlight various problems with the new cycle network.

He was joined by Paul Bradford of Essex County Council and Peter Lynn of the Green Party. Paul is to give Neil an official response in the next fortnight.

1 ECC says they will be taking over a piece of this  land and completing the path up to the gates

2  ECC can see no reason for not moving the path, subject to discussion with developers

3 A bit tricky, the western path exit was dictated by the only natural break in the hedge, which is covered by a protection order. However, ECC is aware that this is a dangerous crossing and is seeking ways of improving it

4 This is no longer an issue as this will not be the main route into the town centre when the new path is put in, running along side Berechurch Rd

5 ECC said there is a possibility of putting in a drop kerb in on the Circular Road East / Berechurch Road corner allowing cyclists to access the path when turning in from  Berechurch Road

6 ECC will look into this now they are aware of the problem

7 The bridge will come down and be replaced by an island crossing, the road will be rebuilt / widened in this area but it will be in the 40 mph zone. Neil raised concerns over this as the road will be 30 mph to just before the flyover , then 40 then back to 30. He said theis wasbound to lead to speeding at the entry points.

8 This is no longer an issue as this road is being remove; the paths will be joined with no need for drop kerbs.

9 Considered to be outside of this walkabout.
