New Year off to flying start for Cycle Training East
Cycle Training East has been appointed as trainers to Essex Police with a contract to train 200 Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs).
CTE was formed two years ago by instructors Pam Nelson and Jeff Wade to deliver National Standards training in the east of England.
Cycle Training East - which is run by cyclists to promote cycling both for sport and environmentally friendly transport - began in the Colchester and Chelmsford and has since expanded to cover most of Essex and Suffolk.
In 2005, CTE converted to a Community Interest Company to formalise its not-for-profit status. It works with special needs schools, the Essex Autistic Society and in many mainstream schools, as well as training individuals and small / family groups.
In co-operation with the local authorities, CTE supports transport initiatives such as the Colchester 2020 Travel Plan Club and delivesr staff training to Essex County Council, Mid Essex Hospitals and St John Ambulance.
CTE is working towards becoming an accredited Instructor Training Provider as its biggest difficulty has always been getting enough instructors.
It already has a record number of bookings for this time of year and aims to achieve a considerable expansion in 2007.
